This comprehensive Introduction to Photography Course, is suitable for all levels of Photography, whether you are a Beginner or an Intermediate student, whether you want to restart your journey in photography, or just to brush up on your skillset.
Learn the fundamentals and the principles of Photography in depth. You will go beyond the ‘full auto’ or program setting on your digital Optical DSLR / Mirrorless / 4/3rds / Superzoom / Bridge camera / Adjustable Compact camera using the Shutter, Aperture, and Manual modes. Learn how to set up, and use your camera properly, and capture truly creative and memorable photographs. This comprehensive course concludes with; Travel photography how to tell a story and get the most of your Photography when you are travelling.
You will also learn how to set up properly and photograph, in colour using the Tutor’s settings on your camera for bolder colour photographs, and the Tutor’s settings in black & white, as it is one of the most dramatic ways to capture a photograph. A maximum of 8 x places for a greater learning experience, and more one time with the tutor.
This course will be started in Week 1 at Jannali Campus to acclimatise students to their camera / camera setup and controls. Weeks 2 to 6 will be conducted at Jannali station as there are interesting architectural aspects and angles, lighting and movement, with greater great opportunities to learn composition and to photograph in both colour and black-and-white.
We meet at Jannali Station adjacent to the pedestrian crossing on the bend where Mitchell Ave and Jannali Ave meet, near the bike rack.
Course Outline:
Week 1 – Jannali Centre
Correct camera set up; Picture Styles and how to see in Colour and Black and White (monochrome) Setting up menus, know your camera, recording images, playback and toolbox, Getting it sharp, Focusing and Recomposing – Focus and recompose
Week 2 – Jannali Station
Light, lighting exposure, under and over exposure, high key and low key lighting, aperture and depth of field
Week 3 – Jannali Station
Composition; Point of View – POV, Framing, Composition and Negative space
Week 4 – Jannali Station
Flash; how to use your built in flash or accessory flash, to get the most out of those situations when you don’t have enough light
Week 5 – Jannali Station
Capturing the Moment and Action photography – Motor drive set up Focusing modes, Shutter speeds slow to fast, Freezing the moment and Panning
Week 6 – Jannali Station
Travel photography how to tell a story and get the most of your Photography when you are travelling.
Course Outcomes:

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR battery, batteries with you x 2 if you have them, and please charge them to FULL even if the indicator is 3/4 or 2/3 as it is not enough power, especially if you only have 1 x battery.
Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them
An extra battery and memory card, are strongly recommended, as your camera will be ON for the most your tutorials, and also reviewing your photographs frequently. Camera Equipment; Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless / Superzoom / Bridge camera / Advanced Compact camera with;
RAW / JPEG image capability (JPEG only is fine)
adjustable ISO/film speed settings

With manual/autofocus capability
Also if your camera has adjustable picture control/picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral, etc
A spare camera body if you have one
Lenses: Lens(es) for interchangeable cameras: Any Zoom Lenses you have Any Prime lens(es) if you have them If you have any lens with a fast aperture of f1.4 / f1.8 / f2.0 / f2.8 etc these will be very useful for night time photography Some night photography is done at close quarters + so make sure you also bring your widest zoom lens and or widest wide-angle prime lens or + fisheye lens if you have one.
For night sessions / flash Photography:
Your internal camera flash is fine for night sessions, but if you have a separate camera flash, please bring that too
With necessary batteries; fresh alkaline or fully charged – rechargeable batteries
Weather:
A session will run in light rain, to give participants an opportunity to photograph in wet weather. A session will only be postponed to a future date, if heavy weather / thunderstorm / high winds is forecast or it is continuously raining.

'My name is Neoklis Bloukos, and I have had a passion for Photography since I was 14 years old. My experience of over 50 + years of Photography includes; over 20 years + of Digital Photography & post processing, and over 9 years + as a Professional Photography Tutor, teaching all levels of Photography.
I am very passionate about Photography, and I love to teach and share, my knowledge and practice of both classic and modern; Photography genres and techniques in the field, and I believe it is the most significant visual medium on this planet.
It is not just about teaching Photography, it is also about experiences with like-minded people, whom want to learn, share and enjoy the Photography learning experience together, in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.'

To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.

Public Transport
From Jannali Station walk to the West side along Jannali railway (heading towards Sutherland), the fourth street on the right is Louise Street. Jannali Centre is at the end of Louise Street

Accessible toilet and ground floor wheelchair access available Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, see Reception for directions to room. After hours and weekends look for the Site Co-ordinator for room directions. Onsite Cafe open Monday to Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat 8:30am – 1:30pm.
