Why choose SGSCC School Age Tutoring College for your child?

With over 25 years’ experience operating out of the St George and Sutherland Shire regions, we have a proven track record of outstanding results. Our formula is a simple one, outstanding professional teachers, tried and true teaching methods coupled with innovative lessons = success.

Where are your classes held?

We currently offer classes from our Jannali and Hurstville campuses

Do the students sit an exam before being placed into a class?

There is no formal assessment undertaken before the student joins a class. This practise has been found to be an extremely unreliable source as it relies completely on the students’ test technique ability.

Instead our teachers assess their students on an ongoing basis through informal observations, questioning and set tasks and continually adjust the learning material presented to the students to cater for their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Do classes have to be started at the being of term or can the student join a class at any point during the term?

Our classes are set up so students can join them anytime they wish throughout the year. This is made possible as our teachers tailor the students learning content to meet their individual learning needs.

How do I enrol and make payments?

Enrolments and payments can be made online or by phoning 02 9528 3344.

We have flexible payment options available. Please ask us how we can tailor your payment plan to suit your household budget.

Payment

Do I have to pay for the whole term if I join after the after the term has started?

No you only pay for the lessons you are enrolling into. eg if you only enrolling for two classes you would only pay for the two classes.

Can you trial a class before joining up?

We have a “Try our first lesson before committing” approach. This means that the student can try any of our classes without having to pay a cent.

You might be asking yourself why we are willing to let students try a class and not pay any money. The answer is simple, we are confident that after trying one class the student will want to enrol and let us become part of their educational journey.

Our Approach

Who provides the tutoring?

Our teachers are highly experienced and motivated and all hold degrees in Education specialising in their chosen field. SGSCC teachers are chosen, from the many who apply to work with us, not only for their extensive knowledge and use of effective pedagogies but also for their passion to help every student reach their goals. All of our teachers have had their Working With Children check.

What is Pedagogy?

Pedagogy is the art (and science) of teaching.

Effective teachers use an array of teaching strategies because there is no single, universal approach that suits all situations. Different strategies used in different combinations with the student enhanced successful learning outcomes. Our teachers are provided with ongoing professional development to help maintain their high standard of teaching.

Do the teachers provide homework?

Yes, upon request.

What is exam technique and why is it important?

Good exam technique in any subject is as important as knowing the content of the subject.

Exam technique includes skills such as: managing time, analysing questions and knowing key words, multiple choice techniques, understanding exam terminology, planning logical and relevant short and long answers, fulfilling all the requirements of the question, writing coherently and concisely and knowing how to deal with difficult questions.

Students also need to know the differences in requirements for each exam, as well as being aware of marking criteria and how to produce answers that attain top bands.

Is small class tutoring beneficial?

Yes. Small classes:

  • Provide students with targeted, small group instruction
  • Provide students with a high degree of individualised assistance to clarify and develop greater understanding of their learning
  • Provide students with a supported learning environment. Sometimes the use of collaborative group work and as individuals fosters positive learning behaviours and attitudes, as well as provides the students with exemplary role models
  • Allow students to develop their confidence and self esteem
