Join us at SGSCC for this fun and hands-on welding class, where you will learn stick and mig (gas and gasless) electric welding in steel. Learn how to weld and get started with your welding projects! Mainly catering for beginners learning from scratch, those that haven’t welded for a long time are also welcome. If you want to buy a machine and set it up at home safely, we will discuss this and what machine to purchase for your particular need.
We learn about a variety of welding machines with different amperages and the different adjustment knobs that are available at present. You are encouraged to practice on all these machines over the 8 weeks so that at the end of the course you will be able to adjust most machines available at present. We don’t weld stainless steel or aluminium but will discuss the differences in welding techniques and different machines needed to do so.
All levels of experience welcome, with a focus on beginners learning from scratch. Women encouraged.
This class is 18 plus only.
Class Outline
Week 1 Safety discussion, starting stick welding Week 2 Stick welding – flat weld Week 3 Stick welding – fillet welds Week 4 Mig welding- starting, flat panels gas and gasless Week 5 Mig welding fillet welds gas and gasless Week 6 Stick and MIG gas and gasless welding practice at both welding different thicknesses Week 7 Stick and MIG gas and gasless welding practice at both start class project Week 8 Stick and MIG gas and gasless welding practice at both finish class project
Students note, if you have a project of your own, tell tutor and bring it after week 5
Class Outcomes:
To have the student learn to stick and MIG weld safely, to recognise a sound weld, and be able to adjust any machine to achieve a sound welding technique
Safety Clothing must be worn as follows:
Long sleeve cotton shirt and collar
Long cotton pants
Sturdy boots
Glasses and other safety equipment will be provided
Please Note:
If a student arrives and is not wearing the above safe clothing they will not be able to participate in the class for the day.
Pregnant ladies and people with pacemakers or other medical devices are not advised to do welding.
We learn to weld steel, not stainless or more difficult aluminium, requiring specialist heavy duty machines.
This course is a good starting point towards developing the ability to weld aluminium and stainless. Our machines are medium-duty and will not continually weld above 10mm steel thickness, although you will be shown the methods to weld thicker steel in the course.
This is NOT a certified course.
Any class requirements will be discussed by the tutor during the first lesson. Enter via the right-hand driveway and head down to the rear carpark behind the main buildings where you will find the standalone building for your class.
About the tutor:
Roneel Krishna, 25 years of welding and fabrication experience in the industry.
Qualification: National Welding Inspector/Supervisor AS2214/AS1796. Roneel’s knowledge and expertise are above par, currently working as a QA/QC inspector and design engineering consultant. Local industries and manufactures deal with Roneel to qualify and certify their welders and fabricators. Interest: Has a keen intereset in mentoring and supporting the candidates who require skills and methodology of techniques to carry our welding and fabrication project, no matter how big or small a project is.
Other Information:
To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
