What you need to know about this course:

  • This qualification includes content, concepts, and scenarios that might be distressing. It's important to carefully assess your resilience and be mindful of any potential emotional triggers, especially as they may arise when participating in this program or in future employment within this field
  • Classes commence in week 1 of each school term
  • Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
  • You will need to plan for approximately 5-10 hours per week at home to complete assessment tasks
  • There is no training during school holidays
  • Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
  • Resources are provided by SGSCC
  • Student lounge available

Course entry requirements

  • You must attend a pre-enrolment meeting with an SGSCC representative to ascertain suitability to the course and to review your current skills and experience
  • Hold a current CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health
  • New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment
  • Current National Police Check (can be arranged through SGSCC)
  • Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
  • Note-taking materials
  • Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)
  • Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences

Do you need to complete any work placement hours?

  • Yes, you need to complete 160 hours (20 days) of work placement
  • Before commencing work placement, you will be required to get a current national criminal record check to allow you to work in a care service facility. SGSCC will assist you with this application process.

Will you need to sit for any exams?

  • No. This is a competency-based course
  • Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 20 units of learning

  • You will receive clear assessment instructions

Delivery Overview:

  • Requirements: Students must be working in the industry to enrol in this course as it requires workplace assessment to be conducted. 20 days of work placement.
