Cooking with Ease
Step into the world of culinary creativity! This cooking class is designed for adults who are eager to learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy the fun of cooking in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Together, we’ll explore the basics of cooking with easy-to-follow recipes and practical techniques. Led by Jen, an experienced and enthusiastic instructor, this course will help you gain confidence in the kitchen as you create delicious meals and snacks each week. Get ready to cook up some tasty memories and savor the joy of sharing food with others!
+ Consumables Cost $72 to be paid to the tutor week 1.
The program is for persons with an intellectual disability. This course runs for 2 hours per week and is run from our Jannali site.
Course Outline:
- Welcome and introductions
- Overview of course objectives and structure
- Kitchen safety and hygiene basics
- Planning our weekly program together
- Hands-on cooking each week, learning a different meal or snack chosen by the class
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand and apply kitchen safety and hygiene practices
- Demonstrate fundamental cooking techniques
- Prepare simple, balanced meals and snacks with fresh ingredients
- Work cooperatively in a supportive learning environment
- Experience the therapeutic benefits of cooking

Kathy brings a wealth of experience and a passion for empowering students, to thrive in the kitchen. With an impressive 27-year tenure at the college and previously working in hospitality and running her own café, Kathy’s background has given her extensive hands-on knowledge of culinary skills and kitchen safety practices. She is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment where each student can develop essen-tial life skills, gain self-assurance, and experience the joy of culinary creativity. Her work is not just about teaching cooking; it’s about fostering independence and empowering students to achieve new levels of personal growth.
Leonie Giddy has over five years of experience working in the disability sector, specializing in helping clients build essential kitchen skills that promote self-sufficiency and independence. With a background in customer service and the health food industry, Leonie is passionate about encouraging healthy food choices while ensuring that cooking remains fun and accessible.She is dedicated to empowering her clients through practical, hands-on learning that they can apply both at home and when assisting others.
