Learn German for Beginners - Part 2

This Learn German for Beginners – Part 2 Class is a continuation of learning from German for Beginners – Part 1. This course is designed for those who would like to continue on from Beginners part 1, or have previous German knowledge. Our native German-speaking tutor is happy to provide you with a sound foundation for the basics of the German language and its pronunciation. Learn how to speak German, with a beginner’s language course at SGSCC. If you are looking to travel to Germany, or have an interest in acquiring the basics of the language and some conversational skills, then this course is for you.

SGSCC Beginners Language courses are Entry Level, meaning no prior knowledge is required. These courses are geared to the potential tourist, businessperson and those wishing to improve communication with friends or family who have a non-English speaking background.

This course will be ideal for preparing you for travel and give you a basic understanding of the German language. If you want to learn to speak German, this German course is ideal for adult learners to enjoy a practical and social experience while you learn the German language and culture. You will learn the basics of the language, such as greetings, introducing yourself and basic conversation skills. Grammatical elements will also be taught in the course, as you learn basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

In this course you will learn basic greeting, the German alphabet, how to introduce yourself and others and different topics such as family, work, colours, weather, travelling through Germany and country names. This course will be interactive and active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom environment.

Course Outline:

  • greetings (welcome and farewell)
  • the German alphabet
  • pronunciation of letters – in particular, the Umlauts ä, ö, ü
  • introducing yourself and others
  • vocabulary for word fields such as family, work, languages, colours, country names
  • numbers from 1 – 100
  • constructing questions
  • articles – definite, indefinite, possessive and negative
  • nouns – singular and plural
  • introduction to grammatical cases

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to introduce yourself and ask about hobbies
  • Be able to count to 100
  • spell in German
  • form simple questions and answers using verb conjugations and nouns with articles
  • engage in conversations
  • have a basic grasp of grammatical structure.

Prerequisite:

You need to have completed German Beginners – Part 1 to enrol in this class or demonstrate your relevant ‘level’ through a conversation with the tutor prior to enrolling.

About the tutor:

My name is Sigrid and I have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and also an Advanced Diploma of Accounting. I am a native speaker and lived and worked in Germany for over 30 years before coming to Australia in the year 2000. I run my own business as a bookkeeper and BAS Agent since 2007 and I have taught children German at the German Saturday School for a few years as well adults at the college.

I am teaching courses for the accounting software MYOB and Xero as well as a theory course called Accounting for Non-Accountants. I have a passion for bookkeeping and enjoy passing my knowledge on.

I am also teaching German and looking forward to improving your German communication skills. Although there will be a bit of grammar, the focus is on informal speaking and preparation for your travel to a beautiful country. I am looking forward to talking to you in German. Sigrid

  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
