Printmaking - New!

Printmaking is a fun and accessible course designed for students to explore a range of printmaking techniques and ideas. You will be guided through different processes including monotype, relief, stencilling and lino print. Of course, you will also enjoy hands on activities, creative mess and conversations about art. Drawing inspiration from everyday media, the environment and master printmakers you will develop a series of your own unique prints. This is a practical and social course designed to encourage beginners as well as extend those with prior printing experience.

Course Outline:

Week 1 Mono Printing
Week 2 Nature prints
Week 3 Layers (& Gelli Plates)
Week 4 Stencils
Week 5 Repeat Patterns
Week 6 Reduction Printing
Week 7 Lino printing (design & cut)
Week 8 Lino printing (Layers)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand and engage with basic print making techniques including monotype, stencilling and relief printing
  • Explore layering and collage
  • Experiment with different ratios and compositions
  • Create a series of art images. Perhaps cards &/wrapping paper

What to bring:

  • Craft knife
  • Cutting Mat and metal ruler
  • Water based printing inks
  • Easy-carve Lino blocks
  • Lino cutting tools

• Assorted papers
• Photographs, postcards or other images for inspiration
• Pencil, glue, scissors

Optional:
• 2 Brayers
• Sponge
• Baren
• Geli plate
• Perspex sheet or old picture frame with glass

About the Tutor:

'Laura Kneebone has worked as a Fine Artist and Educator between Zimbabwe, England and Australia for over 25 years now. She is a graduate of the University of the Creative Arts (where she majored in printmaking) and the Institute of Education University of London. Laura lives in the Royal National Park and draws her inspiration from the plethora of flora and fauna of her surroundings. To see her work, you may visit her in Studio 22 on the monthly Bundeena-Maianbar Art Trail, or at local art festivals, exhibitions and workshops in this thriving art community.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
