Day Trippers - Discovery & Adventure
Day Trippers is a dynamic 5-hour program designed for those who love exploring our city and beyond. Through a variety of public transport options and our college van, participants will visit exciting locations such as museums, historical sites, and unique attractions. Along the way, we’ll also enjoy a range of fun and engaging activities. Whether you’re passionate about adventure or simply love discovering new places, Day Trippers offers a supportive and engaging environment to explore, socialize, and learn new skills.
Course Outline:
The Day Trippers program encourages active client participation in planning the day’s activities to ensure everyone experiences something that piques their interest. Activities may include:
- Attending live shows, visiting art galleries, or touring various exciting locations.
- Enjoying recreational activities like bowling, bocce, and other client-favorite pastimes.
- Exploring attractions in a supportive, fun, and inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute their ideas.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Develop confidence in navigating both the local community and broader areas using public transport and the college van.
- Discover and explore new and interesting locations.
- Practice and enhance independence skills.
- Strengthen social interactions and build friendships through shared activities and experiences.
What to bring:
- Comfortable walking shoes.
- Opal card and/or companion card.
- Water bottle, hat, and sunscreen for outdoor activities.
- Wet weather gear, just in case.
- Morning tea and lunch.
About the Facilitator:
Michelle has been a dedicated disability support worker at SGSCC since 2018, where she has cultivated strong, lasting connections with her clients. In her role as a facilitator for the Day Trippers program, Michelle takes clients with disabilities on exciting outings throughout the wider Sydney area. Michelle’s exceptional communication skills ensure that clients receive clear instructions and support throughout each activity, helping them feel comfortable as they gain independence.
Her organizational skills shine in her ability to plan outings that are both safe and engaging, taking into account the unique needs and interests of her clients. She is adept at handling any challenges that arise, whether it’s adjusting plans due to weather or overcoming transport delays. Her focus is always on creating a fun, inclusive environment where clients can grow socially, develop their independence, and build confidence in a supportive setting.
